In the previous three months, (since the committee formed), everything that could be planned for had been put in place except that the January date supplied to the committee and the date used by the venue were different!
At 12:30 on the day of the event, with Chesterfield's Mayor and Deputy Mayor on hand for the launch, and the concert widely advertised in the press, on radio and via distributed flyers, the difference in dates was discovered and the concert room had already been transformed for a long standing Sixtieth Birthday Party.
As waves of panic arose at both ends of the telephone line a member of the Club Chesterfield Team came up with a workable solution. The Party had to go on; the Member's Bingo would have to be moved, and so the first of the new Chesterfield Folk Club's Concerts took place on time in Club Chesterfield's Top Room after some rearrangements had been organised.
The evening was a great success with over one hundred people turning up to see Dave Burland supported by the John Prentice group "A Pint, a Half and a Jill".
The Mayor enjoyed herself, the artists enjoyed themselves, the audience enjoyed itself, and the room was more than adequate and, in some people's minds provided a better atmosphere.
For the forseeable future, our Friday Night concerts will continue as previously in Club Chesterfield's Phoenix Room at the front of the Club.
The committee is hoping that all of our concerts are just as successful, but not as nerve wracking, to put on.
